Rwandans overseas joined their motherland in celebrating the 20th Liberation anniversary that took place on July 4, 2014.
The Diaspora celebrated the end of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi that lasted for a period of 100 days, claiming thousands and thousands of lives.
The celebrations were hosted by Rwandans in countries such as Kenya, Burundi, South Sudan, Japan, UK, United States, China, South Africa and Belgium among others.
Events included speeches by Rwandan ambassadors representing Rwanda in Diaspora countries as well as diplomats from the countries of host.
During celebrations which were also attended by friends of Rwanda in Diaspora, diplomats talked about Rwanda’s past and commending the country’s progress over the last two decades and their contribution to meeting the UN’s Millennium Development Goals( MDGs).
Documentaries of what transpired in 1994 in relation to the UN at the time in Rwanda were also screened among others.

In Rwanda, celebrations graced by friends of Rwanda similarly included various performances hosted by the Rwanda Diaspora.
