Rwandans and friends of Rwanda living in Ankara city in Turkey on Thursday took some time to remember the victims of the Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi as part of commemoration of the 20th year after the Genocide.
In Ankara the Kwibuka20 flame was lit and emphasis was put on the need to remember together lives that were lost, Unite to ensure that Genocide Never happens again.
The event was presided over by Rwandan Ambassador to Turkey, Amb. Caesar Kayizari who said in his speech that Rwandans and the world do remember to ensure that Genocide does not happen again
“We remember to ensure that Genocide does not happen again and it is our duty to remember the victims of genocide” he said.
The audience listened to various testimonies of Rwandans students studying in Turkey and watched a never again video to understand what Rwanda has gone through in its hstory
The launch of \Kwibuka20 was held at Ankara Sheraton hotel under the Theme: ‘We Remember, we are united and indeed we renew”.
The event in Ankara city also offered an opportunity for Turkish to learn about Rwanda in general, as the two countries have a long bilateral and business relationship since President Paul Kagame’s visit to Turkey in 2012.
Associate Professor, Mehmet Akif Okur of Gazi University in Ankara said that there is need to have responsibility to protect citizens and prevent any kind of genocide from happening ever again.
