Rwandan military peacekeepers serving under the African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) received recognition medals on 26 September 2013 in Zalingei, central Darfur.
The decoration medal ceremony is aimed at recognizing the good job by the peacekeepers in UNAMID.
The Ceremony was attended by different dignitaries including the UNAMID Deputy Force Commander, Maj Gen. Balla Keit, the Governor of Central Darfur State H.E Yusuf Tibini.
Others are the Rwandan Contingent Commander, Col Ludovick Mugisha, Sudan Armed Forces 21st Division commander Maj Gen fadhil al Khayar, and other UNAMID representatives.
Presiding over the event, UNAMID Deputy Force Commander, Maj Gen. Balla KEIT thanked the Government of Rwanda for sending troops in peacekeeping mission in Sudan.
He commended Rwandan peacekeepers for a job well done in protecting the UNAMID personnel and Darfur citizen in need of security and evacuation.
He also commended them for discipline, commitment, professionalism and good relationship with local population and cooperation with fellow peacekeepers, contingents from different countries, Formed police units (FPUs), Police advisors, Military observers and other UN Staff present in Darfur.
The Governor of Central Darfur State, H.E Yusuf Tibini thanked Rwandan peacekeepers for protecting and supporting the Sudanese society in different activities like construction of Schools, Clinic, HIV/AIDS Voluntary confidential counseling.
Others were testing center and other different projects. He wished to all a safe stay in Zalingei Central State and in Darfur at large.
In this occasion, military parade, martial art and cultural dance were performed.
On 21 September 2013 the peacekeepers also received UN recognition medals in Kabkabiya, North Darfur where they are deployed.
