The High Commissioner of Rwanda to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Ernest Rwamucyo presented his credence to President of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa on August 12, 2013.
During the presentation of credentials, Rwamucyo mentioned Rwanda’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Sri Lanka.
He also expressed the need for close collaboration in global issues notably in the Commonwealth framework.
In a subsequent meeting with Sri Lankan Minister of External Affairs, Prof. Gamini Lakshman Peiris, both parties agreed that it was important to enhance cooperation in the fields of skills development, entrepreneurship, and youth collaboration.
Rwamucyo was accompanied by Mr. Cally Alles, Honorary Consul of Rwanda in Sri Lanka and Mr. Mucyo Rutishisha Second counsellor.
The Governments of Rwanda and Sri Lanka decided to establish diplomatic relations since 2011.
The High Commissioner of Rwanda accredited to Sri Lanka is based in New Delhi while the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Rwanda resides in Nairobi.
The two countries are exploring areas of cooperation which include skill development, entrepreneurship, youth collaboration, among others.
The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the island country lying off the southern tip of India, in the northern Indian Ocean, has maritime borders with India to the northwest and the Maldives to the southwest.
