Master plan of the exemplary village in Bugesera
As part of their efforts to contribute on the fight against Nyakatsi, members of Rwandan Diaspora subscribing to the Rwandan Diaspora Global Network (RDGN ) have embarked on building a model village in Bugesera district.
A model village named “Bugesera Diaspora Village” is being built in Nemba cell, Rutete village, Rweru sector.
According to Olivier Uwanyagasani, head of Termitery Construction Company (TECOC) that won the tender to build the village, nine houses will soon be completed as they wait for more money to build more houses.
“We are waiting for more money so we can construct more housing units because we plan to build 500 modern housing units in this village,” said Uwanyagasani.
The Village will be built on a three hectares of land and the donated by Bugesera district. The first nine houses are estimated to have been completed in four months as per the contract.
Eric Ntukanyagwe, in charge of Housing in Bugesera discloses that the project targets Bugesera’s poor families who cannot construct their own houses.
The project comes in the wake of the government’s efforts to stump out grass thatched houses in the whole country.
The programme has received much success as the number of these houses is greatly decreasing in the rural areas. The Eastern Province where Bugesera is found had the biggest number of thatched houses according to the statistics that were released at the beginning of the “Nyakatsi” eradication campaign. Early last year.
